چکیده

Professor Yrjo Paatero, in 1961, first introduced the Orthopantomography (OPG) [1]. It has been extensively used in dentistry for analysing the number and type of teeth present, caries, impacted teeth, root resorption, ankylosis, shape of the condyles [2], temporomandibular joints, sinuses, fractures, cysts, tumours and alveolar bone level [3,4]. Panoramic radiography is advised to all patients seeking orthodontic treatment; including Class I malocclusions [5].

Does the Panoramic Radiography Have the Power to Identify the Gonial Angle in Orthodontics?

PURPOSE The objective of this study was to assess gonial angle under the angle classification by comparing panoramic radiograph and lateral cephalometric radiograph. MATERIALS AND METHODS 49 patients (25 males, 24 females) with an age range of 12-29 years participated in the present study. Subjects were retrospectively selected among those categorised as skeletal and dental Class I, II, and I...

Agreement Between Panoramic and Lateral Cephalometric Radiographs for Measuring the Gonial Angle

BACKGROUND The gonial angle is one of the most important measurements required for orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery. It is difficult to determine the accurate measurement of each gonial angle on cephalometric radiographs because of superimposition of the left and right angles. OBJECTIVES The aim of the present study was to determine the right and left gonial angles on panoramic ...

بررسی میزان هماهنگی بین اندازه گیری های انجام شده توسط رادیوگرافی پانورامیک و سفالومتری جانبی در تشخیص الگوی رشد عمودی صورت

Background & Aims: One of the most important issues in training, diagnosis, and treatment in orthodontics is a thorough understanding of patient’s growth pattern. Imbalances in this pattern can cause malocclusion which is one of the most important causes of referring patients for treatment. At the first step, dentist’s responsibility is the diagnosis and monitoring of the growth pat...

Dilemma of gonial angle measurement: Panoramic radiograph or lateral cephalogram

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of panoramic imaging in measuring the right and left gonial angles by comparing the measured angles with the angles determined using a lateral cephalogram of adult patients with class I malocclusion. MATERIALS AND METHODS The gonial angles of 50 class I malocclusion patients (25 males and 25 females; mean age: 23 years) were measu...

Assessing the Correlation between Cephalometric Measurements In Patients with Class II Malocclusion

Background and purpose: Some measurements such as angles and planes drawn in lateral cephalometry have different relationships and correlation coefficients which help to distinguish different types of malocclusions. The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between ANB, Wits, occlusal plane, and Y-axis cephalometric measurements in patients with class II malocclusion. Materials...
